NMTIE dedicates itself "to the furtherance of the use of technology, communications and information resources in New Mexico education to improve the instruction, research and administration within New Mexico educational institutions," and this week in Albuquerque they hosted their annual conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

For the first time, NMTIE had a special day for K-12 Educators, and hosted a Google/Microsoft day to highlight how these companies are furthering the educational opportunities of students in Carlsbad, and the state as a whole. Attendees were able to attend workshops designed to help them implement this technology in their school, network with educators in the state who are already doing so, and listen to keynote speeches from Jamie Casap, Chief Education Evangelist at Google, and Howie Morales, Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico.

Anita Chavez, Digital Learning Coach for CMS, said her biggest takeaway was what she heard from the keynote given by Jamie Casap. Chavez said, “Jamie’s keynote was amazing. One of the things he said was that we go around asking kids what they want to be when they grow up, but 65% of future jobs aren’t created yet. One thing we can do to make them future ready is to ask them what problems they want to solve, instead of what they want to be. It also means that we as educators need to start pushing the envelope with creative education to ensure our students are learning skills of the future.”

Many CMS educators from across the district had the unique opportunity to attend NMTIE 2019, and look forward to sharing their takeaways with their colleagues soon.
