Teaching & Learning

Elementary Education
The goal of the Office of Elementary Education is to support Pre-K through Fifth grades with a foundation in strong literacy and math skills aligned to the NM Common Core State Standards. In addition, the Elementary Education program focuses on introducing students to social emotional skills and a broad range of knowledge and skills in other content areas such as social studies and science aligned from grade to grade for a smooth transition to secondary so that all students can be successful in life.

Secondary Education
The goal of the Office of Secondary Education and College and Career Readiness is to support the secondary schools in the district to prepare every student transitioning from middle and high school years to their place in this world as young adults. To achieve this goal, we strive to provide all students access to rigorous curriculum, instructional experiences aligned with state standards and opportunities to engage in college-level coursework, occupational skill development and structured work-based learning. With relevant educational experiences aligned to students’ goals, passions and curiosities, we will graduate ALL Carlsbad students with a value-add high school diploma.
