Recent Allegations Release

Carlsbad Municipal Schools takes seriously any allegations affecting the well-being of students. The District is aware of the recent social media posts regarding a staff member. The issues are being addressed by the District consistent with state statute and Board policy. As this is a personnel matter we cannot comment further.

Network Security Update

We are actively and methodically bringing our network back online following the recent incident.

Our primary focus is to ensure a secure environment as we restore services.

Please disregard any rumors suggesting the network will be down for months—these are unfounded.

We have made steady progress:

Student Chromebooks were operational today.

We are slowly and carefully restoring Internet connections.

As an additional precaution, we have collected all Windows devices for individual, in-depth security examination. This is an arduous and time-consuming process, but it is necessary for the long-term security and integrity of our entire network.

We deeply appreciate your continued patience and understanding as our team works diligently through this critical task.

We are committed to a secure and full restoration.

Thanks,

Gerry Washburn

About Our School District

Welcome to Carlsbad Municipal School District

Carlsbad Municipal School District (CMSD) serves more than 7,100 students across a network of schools, including one preschool, seven elementary schools, two middle schools, a comprehensive high school, and an Early College High School that allows students to earn college credits while completing their high school education. The district also operates the Carlsbad Enrichment Center, which offers flexible, alternative learning pathways tailored to individual student needs.

CMSD takes a holistic approach to education, combining rigorous academics with a wide range of extracurricular and athletic programs that support student growth beyond the classroom. With a strong focus on career readiness, particularly in the region’s vital oil and gas sector, the district prepares students for both higher education and the workforce. In close partnership with the City of Carlsbad, CMSD regularly hosts events that engage students, families, and the broader community, strengthening civic pride and collaboration. At its core, CMSD is dedicated to helping every student reach their full potential and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

  • To challenge and inspire students to develop the skills and aptitudes necessary to make a living, succeed in post-secondary education, and positively impact their world.

  • Carlsbad Municipal School District envisions a thriving community where education empowers every student to excel as a responsible citizen, adapt to evolving societal challenges, and seize diverse opportunities for lifelong success.

    • Preparing students with the skills necessary to succeed in career, college, and life will take courageous leadership.
    • Creativity, instructional risk-taking and collaboration are a daily part of school life.
    • Success is achieved through the application of learning, not through taking risks.
    • Student interests are a critical component of instructional design.
    • Partnerships with families, local businesses, the Carlsbad community and regional industries are crucial for the success of our students and teachers.
