Carlsbad Municipal Schools is Partnering with the "I Love U Guys" Foundation

Carlsbad Municipal Schools is committed to the safety, security, and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors. In support of this mission, we have adopted crisis response protocols developed by the nationally recognized “I Love U Guys” Foundation. These protocols are designed to provide a clear, actionable framework for responding to a wide range of emergencies in a school setting.

 

About the "I Love U Guys" Foundation

The “I Love U Guys” Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on school and community safety. Their work is rooted in compassion, practicality, and collaboration. Through extensive partnerships with public safety professionals, educators, and emergency planners, the Foundation has developed data-informed, easy-to-implement systems that help schools respond effectively during crisis events.

 

Standard Response Protocol (SRP)

A Simple, Action-Based Approach to Crisis Response

The SRP provides a uniform, practiced, and easily understood set of actions for any emergency. Rather than focus on individual scenarios, the SRP is built on five core directives, each using plain language to communicate what is expected of students, staff, and responders:

  • Hold
    Stay in the classroom and keep hallways clear.
  • Secure
    Go inside and lock all exterior doors.
  • Lockdown
    Lock doors, turn off lights, stay quiet and hidden.
  • Evacuate
    Leave the building and go to a safe location.
  • Shelter
    Follow safety steps for weather or hazardous threat.

Standard Reunification Method (SRM)
A Structured, Accountable Approach to Post-Crisis Recovery

The SRM provides a clear, practiced framework for safely reuniting students with parents or guardians following a school emergency. Focused on accountability, communication, and emotional safety, the SRM outlines roles, procedures, and site logistics to ensure reunification is calm, organized, and legally sound—even in high-stress situations.
