Important Licensure Update: Title I Schoolwide Schools SY 2025-26

Key Change:

According to New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) regulations outlined in NMAC 6.63.9.10, educators assigned to Title I Schoolwide Schools are required to hold a Level 3 Educational Assistant (EA) license.

Next Steps:

Educators who do not currently hold a Level 3 EA license and are assigned to a Title I School should begin the process of obtaining the necessary licensure by October 2025.

Register for the Para Pro Assessment:

Degreed Applicants:

A minimum of 48 college credits or an Associate/Bachelor degree from an accredited university can be used in lieu of the exam.

  • 15 hours in Language Arts, Math and Writing or Professional Education
  • Upload your transcript to your license advancement application

Apply for Licensure Advancement:

Once the Para Pro exam has been passed you will apply on the NMPED website for an advancement. You will have to upload the exam scores. HR will need to provide you with a Superintendent Verification Form.

Reimbursement for Para Pro Exam:

CMS will reimburse the cost of the Para Pro exam to employees who pass and advance to Level III. An itemized receipt for the assessment and test scores must be submitted to receive reimbursement.
