About CKH

Capturing Kids' Hearts

Core Idea:

Capturing Kids' Hearts main goal is for students to feel genuinely cared for and connected to their teachers and peers. Students are encouraged to engage in their learning activities and exhibit agreed upon behavior during activities. The program believes it is essential to capture a heart before capturing a mind.
EXCEL

EXCEL Model:

The EXCEL Model Framework:

Engage: Begin each day with a greeting.
X-plore: Listen to students' needs and check in.
Communicate: Talk not only about content but also your students' interests.
Empower: Help students take responsibility and provlem solve on their own.
Launch: End the day with a positive message or inspiring thought.

Social Contract

Early in the school year, your child's class will work together to create a Social Contract, a list of agreed-upon rules and expectations for how everyone in the classroom (including the teacher) will treat each other. It's not just a list of rules from the teacher, but something the students have a voice in creating. This helps students feel ownership and responsibility for their classroom community.

Good Things

Many classrooms begin the day by sharing "Good Things." This is an opportunity for students to share something positive or happy that has happened to them recently. It sets a positive tone, builds connections, and encourages empathy. Schoolwide sharing of "Good Things" is encouraged during Monday and Friday morning assemblies.

What does this mean for your child?

You can expect Monterrey to focus on:
  • Positive Relationships: Your child will likely experience a strong emphasis on respectful and caring interactions with their teachers and classmates.
  • Student Voice and Responsibility: Your child will be encouraged to be an active participant in creating a positive classroom culture and taking responsibility for their own behavior.
  • Emotional Support: Teachers will be trained to listen to and address the emotional needs of students, recognizing that emotional well-being impacts learning.
  • Reduced Disciplinary Issues: The program aims to reduce disruptive behaviors by fostering self-management and positive social skills.

Capturing Kids' Hearts is about creating a school where every child feels valued, connected, and empowered to succeed, both academically and socially.
